Local Community Healthy Food Toolkit: Taking Care of Yourself

Radish And Carrots

In these difficult times, it’s important to remember that there are many resources available to you. I have compiled a toolkit of local, state, and national resources to help you stay grounded, educated, and focused on nutrition. We will update this post periodically as I gather more resources. If you have any resources you’d like to share, please contact me.

To access more resources, check out our 2B Well Toolkit.

Local Resources

  1. Eating out might seem risky at this time, but a lot of local restaurants offer safe delivery options. 417 Magazine has compiled a full list of restaurants.

  2. Shopping for healthy food is easier and safer at Mama Jeans. Visit the Mama Jeans website, they offer curbside pickup and delivery!

  3. The Urban Roots Farm Farm Stand is offering an ongoing Honor System Plant Sale. Now is a great time to get gardening! They have garden starts, bedding plants, and succulents in front of the greenhouse, and you can shop at your leisure during normal Farmstand hours. You can pay in the Farmstand with cash or card and ring the bell if you need some additional assistance.

  4. The Gracious Plate is a great resource to help you eat healthily two times per week, and for a limited time, you can get your meals delivered to you for no delivery charge.

  5. Farm to Fork Pork offers farm-raised meat and provides no-contact delivery to those in the Springfield, MO area.

  6. Farmers of the Ozarks, our local farmer’s market, is offering a drive-through market on Saturdays from 8 am – 1 pm! Buy some veggies, meats, cheeses, & baked goods from their vendors.

  7. The 2B Well Toolkit is our practice’s response to our current situation. Check it out to view more helpful resources.

Online Resources

  1. Even though we can’t meet at Jazzercize South Fitness in person, we can still gather online and attend Jazzercise’s “Jazzercise On Demand.” Their Jazzercise program is even offering a coupon. Just sign-up, entirely and in the coupon section, enter “60daysfree” to receive two months free.

  2. If you’re interested in purchasing some meat online, try out Grass Land Beef.

  3. If you want to get moving while you’re at home, Down Dog has decided to make all of their apps – Down Dog, Yoga for Beginners, HIIT, Barre, and 7 Minute Workout – completely free until May 1!

  4.  Thrive Personal Fitness is also still accepting clients online. And is offering virtual training and online coaching packages. They are also offering minimalist meal planning classes online. Everything is entirely self-paced!

General Resources

  1. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services’ website offers up-to-date statistics on Coronavirus. They also provide information on how the virus is affecting our communities and explain how you can help stop the spread.

  2. While cleaning is important to help stop the spread of COVID-19, it’s also important to clean with safe and effective ingredients. The EPA has compiled a comprehensive list of cleaning agents.

  3. It’s easy to eat healthily and stick to a budget when you follow these tips from the Environmental Working Group. If you’re looking for budget-conscious recipes, you can find them on the “recipes” section of our website.

  4. Preparing your food properly is another way to help reduce your risk of infection. These FDA food guidelines are a good starting place, and before you shop, check out Dr. Jeffrey VanWingen on YouTube.

  5. Sanitizing and disinfecting are both important, but there are a few key differences. While sanitizing can cut down on the number of viruses, disinfectants can kill all viruses present on a surface if it is used correctly. Want to know more? Read How Stuff Work’s “Disinfecting vs. Sanitizing” article.

  6. Aldi’s offers cost-effective healthy food if you’re having trouble tracking down produce.
