Live on Purpose: Setting Intentions and Being Accountable

"To be 'on purpose' means I'm doing what I love to do, doing what I'm good at, and accomplishing what's important to me. When I am on purpose, the people, resources, and opportunities I need naturally gravitate toward me. The world benefits, too!"

--Jack Canfield, author

New Year's is such a fantastic time of the year. We get to start anew. But what happens after a few weeks? Does guilt overtake us with what we are not accomplishing our 'resolutions' with great success?

Is it possible that we are human and flawed but loved and enough as we are? How do you define success? I define success as what is right in my life. I see success as more of a spiritual component in my life, more 'inner work.' Am I living right? Remembering I am human? Does it feel right in my heart? Am I choosing not to analyze or judge myself or others? Am I in alignment with my core values? Do I know what my core values are? Am I living with light? Simply, Do What You Love. There are a few things that I gravitate towards when thinking about starting anew.

Declare Your Intentions

I do think that the New Year is an excellent time to declare intentions and set goals. We can still be proactive about growth while doing it from a place of love and non-judgment. Life is not about perfection; it is a process that will continue to grow with us. We do need to have some structure around Declaring our Intentions and Setting our Goals. Think about New Year Resolutions being FLUID. Our life is a process with many lessons, love, and difficulties. There are many ebbs and flows. It is in the darkness that we see the light glowing the brightest. Setting an intention for 2020 is not about resolutions to check off but rather experiences to fill us up.

EVALUATE YOUR CURRENT SITUATION, AND OUTLINE YOUR INTENTIONS.

· First, settle into a place of unconditional love and non-judgment.

· Determine what your Core Values (Personal Values) are. This is important to know before we can do any other work. If you aren't sure, I recommend using this free Personal Value Assessment.

· Write down which area(s) of your life you would most like to improve.

· Write down what your definition of health and wellness is. Set one intention around health – how do you want to feel?

· Are you satisfied with your current relationships? How would it feel if things were different? Write down the essential component of your ideal relationship.

· Evaluate your career. Are you just going through the motions? Are you using your inherent skills while also acquiring new ones? Are you excited to get out of bed every day? Write down one way you could start to create your ideal work situation or learn to love the one you already have.

· Do you have a nurturing spiritual practice? How might your life change if you did? Write down one-way spirituality could help you.
